PostSubject: Tutorial - How to Record a DEMO   Sun Feb 22, 2009 10:09 pm

For all you people that claim to not know how to record demo's heres a little tutorial that shows you how to record and play them.

HOW TO RECORD:

Go into your console during game and type:
"record demoname"
demoname being the name of the demo you want it to be.(no parenthesis needed).

HOW TO PLAY:

The recorded demo will go into your cstrike folder as a .dem file.
You can play this anytime by going into console and type:
"playdemo demoname"
demoname being the name of the demo you recorded.

There was a also a viewdemo feature that works like a video player and can fast forward or pause but I dont think it works with the non-steam version.
"viewdemo demoname"

You can also download a demo player from www.demofreak.com if your lazy and don't want to load up CS yourself.

And also upload demos to a site like www.filefront.com and anybody with the same version of CS can play them.

I think it should be mandatory for everybody to record demo's during a scrim or practice if we think something is suspicious. I will definetely not be a part of the scrim if everyone does'nt agree to recording a demo. Because of the abundance of hackers in TCAA non-steam servers its obvious that it's very easy to cheat in non-steam servers. It's easy to record a demo and does'nt take much space so there should be no reason for you to not record unless your hiding something.

CAL has always required demo's for all players during a match which is why there is not much cheating and keeps it fair.

Besides catching cheaters, its a really good way to see your own mistakes, learn from them and see how your teammates play. If you have steam, watch some cal-i demos and you'll learn so much. I've saved about half of my demos all the way from OGL to cal-main, and wish I could show you guys but you won't be able to play them with non-steam or steam version since they were recorded at either version 1.5 or 1.6 pre-steam. The only demos that would work with non-steam is from some demos I recorded in tcaa fun maps servers for proof.

See, I've already done all of that.
The only problem is, when I record a demo, it saves as a .dmi file. Not a .dem file.
I don't know how to fix it and everytime I record a demo it says file corrupted. No matter what I try to play it with or convert it to any file a windows system message pops up and says file corrupted.
Help?

Sorry dude, i've never heard of it being saved as a .dmi. Its always saves as an .dem extension. Are you able to play it at least through playdemo?

Upload one of your saved demo's on filefront or something and let me see. I've never heard anyone having a problem like yours.

Try emailing it to them. You can email literally any computer file that isn't too big.

Try rapidshare. That website uploads anything no matter what the extension or the file is. OR zip the file into an archive and then try.

I talked to this lady from the chat and she said that it means my computer has a registry error that makes any file besides the recognized files to convert to .dmi which is the quarantine registry of my computer.
No idea what that means but she said it meant somethin like my computer is locking down all un-registered file types and converting them to an un-usable file incase it's a virus.
It's like an old Dell safety trigger or some shit.
I have to go to "my local computer tech" and get him to fix it.

75 fucking dollars.

You have to attach it to your email because it's a file and the virus scan sees it as a quarantined virus.
It won't let me.
